Harish Kalyan’s sports drama Lubber Pandhu will be loaded with references of late Vijayakanth, reveals director

Among the many cricket-based films coming out of Tamil, one of them is Lubber Pandhu. The film stars actors Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh in the lead roles and is currently under production. Recently, in an interview with a Tamil publication, the director of the film, Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, said that the film will be a dedication to the late and veteran actor Vijayakanth.

With Tamizharasan making his directorial debut with the film, Lubber Pandhu is produced by S Lakshman Kumar of Prince Pictures. Tamizharasan has earlier worked as an assistant director in Sigai, Kanaa and FIR. Besides Harish and Dinesh, the film will also star Vadhandhi-fame Sanjana, Bala Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, and Swasika Vijay, among others, in significant roles.

Lubber Pandhu will be a tribute to Vijayakanth:

In a recent interview with Vikatan, Tamizharasan said, “Just like how Karthik Subbaraj adores Rajinikanth, director Lokesh Kanagaraj looks up to Kamal Haasan, and I will be dedicating this film to Vijayakanth.” He also revealed that in Lubber Pandhu, Dinesh will play a fan boy of Vijayakanth and that the film will be loaded with Vijayakanth’s references. “I want to celebrate the actor we all saw once. In the film, Dinesh’s house will be filled with images of Vijayakanth, bag stickers, and his songs. Lubber Pandhu will revive memories of him,” he added.

Vijayakanth, a prolific actor who predominantly worked in the Tamil industry, died on December 28, last year, after getting treatment from the hospital for pneumonia. He had also tested positive for COVID-19 at the time of his death. He was recently conferred with Padma Bhushan by the Indian government.

What do we know about Lubber Pandhu?

Lubber Pandhu is said to be a cricket-based film set against a rural backdrop. The film will focus on street cricket, which is common in India and will have a lighthearted and emotional take. The film stars Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh in the lead roles, marking their first onscreen collaboration. The film will also mark the filmmaker’s directorial debut. The film’s technical crew consists of music composer Sean Roldan, cinematographer Dinesh Purushothaman and G Madan as the editor.
