History comes alive today as Hyun Bin's Harbin hit the theatres on December 24, 2024. This gripping biographical period action-drama film recounts the true story of Ahn Jung-geun, a Korean independence activist who carried out the assassination of Itō Hirobumi, the first Prime Minister of Japan, in 1909. Alongside Hyun Bin, the stellar cast of Harbin includes Lee Dong-wook, Park Jeong-min, Jo Woo-jin, Jeon Yeo-been, Park Hoon, and Yoo Jae-myung in key roles. After its theatrical release, we have got some interesting reviews from people who are huge Hyun Bin fans.
After watching the first-day-first-show of Harbin, fans are absolutely amazed and impressed with the storyline, visualization, the battles, the actors’ performances, and more. Harbin is one of the biggest releases of South Korean actors Hyun Bin and Lee Dong-wook in their over two decades of careers. While the 42-year-old Hyun Bin played the titular role of Ahn Jung-geun, the role of fighter Lee Chang-seop is played by the 43-year-old Lee Dong-wook.
The film shows us the brave Koreans who fought against the Japanese to free their nation. These rebellious Korean activists planned and carried out a surprise attack in the city of Harbin, which was controlled by the Japanese. This bold action was a powerful statement against Japanese rule and showed the world that Korean people were determined to win back their freedom. The film follows the story of one of the activists named Ahn Jung-geun, and his strategies to fight back.
Helmed by Woo Min-ho, Harbin made its World Premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024. Hyun Bin and Lee Dong-wook had joined the director on the red carpet.
During the event, when Hyun Bin was asked about his wife Son Ye-jin, who is also one of the most successful actresses in South Korea, the 42-year-actor stated that Ye-jin’s support mean a lot to him, and he is very grateful towards her. Real-life couple Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin have worked together in the 2019 K-drama Crash Landing on You.
