The day and date were December 29, 1989, when the film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ was released. Little did anyone know that the film would go on to create box-office history in Bollywood. The film starred Salman Khan as the leading man, along with the petite Bhagyashree, who had made her Bollywood debut with the film. Today, on the occasion of Salman Khan’s birthday, Bhagyashree took to social media and shared an extremely cute post about the superstar.

Bhagyashree took to social media today and posted a photograph with the birthday boy Salman Khan. She captioned the post, “Mera dost ! Besides Salman Khan and Bhagyashree, the film also starred veteran actors like Alok Nath, Rajiv Varma, Himani Shivpuri, Monish Bahl, and the late Reema Laagoo.

Trivia about Maine Pyar Kiya
There are many interesting trivia attached with the film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. The most interesting trivia about the film is that Bhagyashree was not the only choice to play the role of the leading lady. Prior to Salman Khan coming on board as the leading man, the film was actually offered to actors including Vindoo Dara Singh, Piyush Mishra, Faraz Khan and even Deepak Tijori.

But for reasons best known to the film’s makers, they went ahead and approached Salman Khan as the leading man. The rest, as they say, is…his-story! The film also saw the Bollywood debut of the late Laxmikant Berde, who among the topmost actors of the Marathi film industry. And as for the film’s leading lady, before Bhagyashree, the film was reportedly offered to Shabina Dutt.

Maine Pyar Kiya smashed records globally in many languages
‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ was dubbed in English and was titled, ‘When Love Calls’. Just like Bollywood, the film went onto become one of the biggest hits in the Caribbean markets at Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, besides other countries. The film was even dubbed in Tamil, which was titled ‘Kadhal Oru Kavithai’. The film met with encouraging response in the South Indian markets as well.
