Through his filmmaking, the award-winning director has always highlighted the reality of our times, leaving us with unique characters and human stories. Hansal Mehta will make his directorial debut on Netflix with the series Scoop kicking off a partnership with the streaming service. Matchbox Shots, the production company behind the character drama, recently began filming.
Scoop is a character drama based on Jigna Vora's book titled Behind The Bars In Byculla: My Days in Prison. It follows Jagruti Pathak, an ambitious crime journalist, on her journey. When she is charged with the heinous murder of a fellow journalist, Jaideb Sen, and herself, in a prison cell with individuals she formerly reported about, her world comes crumbling down. A reputed sharpshooter, a shady bookie, and the infamous Chhota Rajan are among those indicated. While she awaits a trial, the truth is discreetly buried.
Talking about the series, Mehta said in a statement that Behind The Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison by Jigna Vora, caught his curiosity and inspired him to bring this story to life on screen. The filmmaker revealed that they have already started filming and that he is looking forward to working with Netflix on this project.
Great stories can only benefit from a service that can help them reach a larger audience. Thus, Mehta reveals that Scoop is one of those tales, and thanks to Netflix, they will be able to bring it to viewers all over the world. With the help of his co-creator, Mrunmayee Lagoo, and the other producers of Matchbox Shots, he is hoping to go deep into a story about our mediatised times and the human cost of stories that we consume daily.
The cast is yet to be announced.
