Plot

In the film, Nawazuddin essays the character of Haddi, who relocates from Allahabad to Delhi and joins a transgender community in the city. But after seeing his group being burned down by a gangster-turned-politician (played by Anurag Kashyap), he decides to avenge the death of his loved ones by rising in the ranks of the criminal world.

Cast

Touching upon the emotions of revenge, ambitions and anger, the film masterfully pens a note on the criminal activities taking place in the heart of Delhi. Co-written by Akshat and Adamya Sharma, the film is produced by Zee Studios. It features Nawazuddin and Anurag in lead roles, alongside Ila Arun, Shridhar Dubey, Rajesh Kumar, Vipin Sharma, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Saurabh Sachdeva and Saharsh Shukla in supporting roles.

Speaking about the inspiration behind Haddi Akshat had earlier said, “Haddi was conceived during my post-production days on Mukkabaaz. I used to travel back and forth from Parel to Andheri and on the way, I’d often see transgenders/prostitutes baiting their customers. My then flat-mate and co-writer on the film Bhalla told me that they are actually ‘pickup boys’, as they are males cross-dressed as women. Our initial research and discussions with these boys, the cops, and the ‘customers’ unearthed the fact that while few of them were genuine, most of them had nothing to do with the LGBTQIA+ community. It is a criminal nexus that mostly traps the customers and robs them off and is actively working in a lot of metro cities. They would do it because it helped them keep ‘the regular public’ away.”

Haddi is a gripping and bone-chilling story about the vengeance and violence while understanding the psyche of a criminal’s mind.
