Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil actor Prithviraj Sukumaran recently opened up about the Vipin Das directorial and revealed that he was initially supposed to play Basil Joseph’s character in the film.
Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, the highly anticipated comedy entertainer that stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph in the lead roles, is gearing up for a grand release. The movie, which is helmed by Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey director Vipin Das, will hit the theatres on May 16, 2024. In a recent interview with The Cue Studio, Prithviraj opened up about Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, and revealed that he was originally supposed to play Basil’s character in the film.
In his interview with The Cue Studio, Prithviraj Sukumaran revealed that he heard the story of Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil for the first time and said Yes to the film, many years back. However, when director Deepu Pradeep narrated the script a couple of years back, the project was supposed to be directed by another filmmaker. Interestingly, Prithviraj was approached to play the role of Vinu Ramachandran, who is now portrayed by actor-director Basil Joseph, in the film. The character Anand was supposed to be played by another actor.

However, the project was later put on hold for various reasons, and the first director made an exit. Later, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey fame filmmaker Vipin Das approached Prithviraj Sukumaran for the same project and confirmed that he was stepping in as the director. After Vipin joined the project, the story of Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil underwent some major changes. Eventually, Prithviraj decided to take up the role of Anand, which has some grey shades. Basil Joseph, on the other hand, came on board to play Vinu Ramachandran.

As per the reports, the Vipin Das directorial revolves around the wedding of Vinu Ramachandran, a simple Malayali man who works abroad, and Anjaly, the younger sister of Anand. Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil focuses on the complicated relationship of the future brothers-in-law Vinu and Anand, and how it is involved amidst the wedding preparations that last for over 10 days. Anaswara Rajan plays the role of Anjali, while Nikhil Vimal appears in the role of Anand’s wife Parvathy.
