The digital rights of Kannada cinema’s Natarakshasa Dhananjaya’s milestone 25th film had been picked up by Amazon Prime Video
Gurudev Hoysala, an action-packed cop caper with Daali Dhananjaya in the lead, released in theatres on March 30. The film was the actor’s milestone 25th and his second collaboration with the production banner, KRG Studios. Gurudev Hoysala opened to largely positive reviews, but the film had clashed with Nani’s Dasara at the box office and came during the IPL and exam season, owing to which footfalls remained low.
According to box office tracking site sacnilk.com, the film’s net revenue remains under the Rs 6 crore mark after more than two weeks in movie halls. KRG Studios, which has an ongoing relationship with Amazon Prime Video, given that its first production Rathnan Prapancha came directly on the platform, sold the digital streaming rights of Gurudev Hoysala to the streamer prior to its theatrical outing. At the time, it was said that Dhananjaya’s film would begin streaming only after 45 days, but the latest buzz in industry circles is that the OTT premiere may just be expedited. While the film was initially expected to drop on the streamer by mid-May only, it is now being said that it could be available as early as April 27. This, of course, has not been confirmed by the platform, but going by recent trends, it may not be a far-fetched idea that the film will drop in another 10 days. The fact that the team has been releasing full videos of the songs is seen as a precursor to the film’s impending OTT debut.
