UK animation studio Aardman (Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit) is joining with filmmaker Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham) on a Bollywood-inspired feature. The musical film is expected to narrate the story of Bodhi who is a young Indian Elephant from the jungles of Kerala with an impossible dream of becoming a Bollywood Dancer. The movie will be under the direction of Chadha who will be co-writing the script with Paul Mayeda Berges under the banner of their production company Bend It Networks.

Chadha said that Aardman is a great British national treasure and she is honoured and excited to bring out her unique British Asian vision to their acclaimed studio. Their work has so much heart, humour and affection and that she shares a love of authentic and joyful underdog stories with them about memorable characters which makes it a perfect match.

The Creative Director at Aardman added that they are excited to be collaborating with Gurinder who is a great director and her beautiful, funny and warm storytelling nature has been admired by him. She has got talent and once it is combined with the team there at Aardman it should promise something new and extraordinary in the animation world.

There is an advanced development on the project as Aardman and Bend It Networks will work with Indian voice talent, musicians and designers.

Chadha most recently directed the 2019 TV series Beecham House and the movie Blinded By the Light. The same year even Aardman released the sequel A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon.
