Guntur Kaaram is Mahesh Babu and director Trivikram's latest release. Netflix has secured the OTT rights to the film.
Guntur Kaaram is one of the most talked-about films in the last two days. Ever since the film's box office collections have fallen, trade experts say that the Mahesh Babu starrer will see losses in most of its areas of release. After this, producer Naga Vamsi released a statement accepting the fact that the film has not done well. This is portraying the film in a negative light.
We at OTTplay have already reported that Netflix has grabbed the streaming rights to the film for a massive amount. Now, we have come to know from our sources that Guntur Kaaram is expected to be available for digital streaming on February 9. This date is more or less certain and if the deal is changed, then the film will be out on February 16 for sure.
The makers had made a deal with Netflix in such a way that if Guntur Kaaram becomes a massive hit, the OTT release will be delayed by a week rather than its one-month theatrical to OTT release window. Now that the film is seeing mixed reactions, Guntur Kaaram will be out on the fixed date, says one of the sources.
Mahesh Babu is off to Germany, as he has started working on SS Rajamouli's film. He is done and dusted with the post-release promotions and the collections have almost died in many areas. The film is a bit strong in the interiors of a few Telugu states.
Trivirkam Srinivas has directed this film, which had a negative vibe from day one. It all started when fans were not happy with Thaman composing the music. Then, there were absolutely zero updates from the makers before the release. One event that was held at the last minute saved the damage a bit.
Also, the makers did not reveal the genre of the film, confusing fans and the general audience. All this led to a negative word of mouth from day one itself. As Mahesh and Trivikram were teaming up after a long gap, everyone expected a class film, but Guntur Kaaram ended as a routine action drama with mother sentiment. Guntur Kaaram needs more than Rs 24 crore to be in the safe zone and that is highly unlikely.
