Guntur Kaaram box office - Film sees dip in Telangana, distributors looking at losses over Rs 10 crore, details inside
Though Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram started with a negative word of mouth, the collections during the festive weekend were strong. But the film will see massive losses of over Rs 10 crore in Telangana.

Guntur Karaam is superstar Mahesh Babu's fifth Rs 100 crore film in a row and the star hero is over the moon with this feat. But the action drama directed by Trivikram Srinivas has slowed down at the box office big time as the occupancy has fallen big time in key areas like Telangana and the US.
The film is struggling to cross the USD 2.5 million mark in the US and a small film, HanuMan, has grossed over USD 3 million, which is huge and shows how the Mahesh Babu starrer fell flat after the festival holidays. Guntur Kaaram needs a Rs 24 crore share to be in the safe zone and by the looks of it, the makers will end up with losses in a few areas.
But the biggest setback of them all is the Nizam area. Star producer Dil Raju bought the theatrical rights to Telangana for a whopping Rs 40 crore. So far, Guntur Kaaram has only made Rs 25 crore, which is shockingly low. To be in a safe zone, the film needs to make Rs 40 crore, which is unlikely to happen.
All the distributors who bought the rights to various areas in Telangana will face massive losses as per the latest trade update. The case in Andhra is a bit better, as Guntur Kaaram has broken even in most of the areas.
One of the reasons for the film's collections being dull is the lack of proper promotion. The team didn't film any interviews other than the pre-release event in Guntur. The main hit song, Kurchi Madatapetti, was also revealed just days before the release. All this created a delay in taking the film off to a great start at the box office.
More importantly, the negative talk from day one has left the film in a danger zone. The makers are in safe hands, as they have made handsome profits through various post-theatrical rights to the film.
But the one who will suffer the most is Dil Raju, as he was the one who promoted Guntur Kaaram in a grand wat and even allotted more screens to the Mahesh Babu starrer, ignoring a film like HanuMan. His reputation will surely take a beating with this film.
Trivkram directed this film, which had Sreeleela and Meenakshi Chaudhary in key roles. Thaman scored a disappointing album for the film, which was produced by Haarika and Hasine Creations.
