Imagine Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani trying to make you laugh through a movie. As a cherry on top of the cake, Shah Rukh Khan makes a dashing appearance and competes with Akshay to steal his girl! That movie, for you, ladies and gentlemen, is Heyy Babyy.
Of course I do not need to give you more reasons why I absolutely love this film but I do have many more. Keeping the fashion sense in the film aside (which could also be let go of because these people were trying to make a baby and you laugh), Heyy Babyy is a gift from Bollywood, one the people really need to hold dear and cherish more.
Here are some reasons why I love Heyy Babyy and also why Bollywood needs more films like that...
Young and free men? Check.
Heyy Babyy is a reflection on what the men in the society are like. They are young and free till they fall for someone and things work out. When they don't work out (or sometimes even when they do), these 'men' try to find an escape route. You cannot blame them - it's just how their upbringing is. Men can be left free while women can be jailed in their own houses? Welcome home.
An angel they reject? Check.
These men are so blinded by their independent lifestyle that they do not even care an ounce about a little human being and leave her in the rainy weather. Thankfully, showing some humanity and prevailing sense, they do check up on her (after abandoning her in the cold weather) and get her hospitalized, even when it might just be too late.
Men turning into responsible beings? Check.
After the baby miraculously survives (which she might not have in real), these men turn into responsible beings. They adopt her and actually do all the chores they never thought of doing. For all we know, they probably always believed that changing diapers is a woman's job.
Past coming to haunt you? Things getting real? Check.
Imagine that in this situation, you get to know that the abandoned baby is actually your own. That's right. Arush Mehra (Akshay) gets to know that the cute little angel is actually his own daughter. Things change drastically after the revelation and he finally realizes how he has treated women all his life. Not just him, even his friends Ali (Fardeen Khan) and Tanmay (Riteish) realize that they have been so wrong all this time.
Getting the baby's mom back? Check.
Now that Arush did turn responsible, how could he let Angel (the baby's name) stay away from her mom? Seeing her after so many years, Arush also feels responsible for abandoning her when things got real. The song literally had the verses, "Dholiya dholna raaz-e-dil khol na, dholiya dholna aage kuch toh bol na," hinting that she wanted to know how he felt.
A hilarious plot? Check.
After Isha (Vidya Balan) takes her baby back from Arush and his friends, they try all means to bring Angel back. Arush challenges her to find a faithful husband who will accept Angel. Furthermore, he gives her a week's notice. If Isha does not succeed, Arush gets to keep Angel and even Isha, if she agrees to the terms. Much to their surprise, Isha actually finds someone and Arush and his friends spring into action to shoo the guy away.
'King Of Romance' Shah Rukh Khan vs Akshay Kumar? Double check.
King of Romance aka Shah Rukh Khan makes a cameo in the film, as Raj Malhotra nonetheless. He faces strong competition from Arush aka Akshay who is now ready to be called a father and take up all the duties of a parent.
A happy family? Check.
After everything, Isha and Arush do realize that they belong together. The Angel does her magic again and we get to see an extended happy family. Smile please? Check.
