Biwi No 1 is a classic David Dhawan film that became a huge hit upon its release. Starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Sushmita Sen in the lead roles, this movie is about extra-marital affair but not your sad and depressing film. Of course, it has some moments which are too dramatic and fit in well with the concept of Bollywood films of the era but what makes Biwi No 1 stand out is that it is Bollywood guide to putting men in their place.
Rule number 1: Got kids? Keep them with the dad
Pooja (Karisma) uses her kids very smartly to separate Prem (Salman) and Rupali (Shamita). The fact that Rupali is a very shallow person who just wants a rich guy and nothing to do with his family helps Pooja's cause greatly.
Rule number 2: Get the mom and dog away
Ensure that your ex-husband comes to terms with the fact that he is an ex and thus, nobody from his life deserves a place in yours. A savage move indeed, especially since Tiger (the doggo) was responsible for showing Pooja the mirror about her husband.
Rule number 3: Become a supermodel
Here is a proven formula to getting men weak in their knees. Be a supermodel. When men get to see a side of you they never saw or expected, that shakes their whole world and brings them back to their sense. Biwi No 1 deals with that quite well.
Rule number 4: Do not get carried away
One thing Biwi No 1 got right is how Pooja was a loyal and committed wife. She loved one man who is her husband Prem and even when she pretended to not care, Pooja always did care. It was thanks to her efforts that the relationship held on together, even when one-sided.
Rule number 5: Show the other woman where she belongs
Many women tend to get lost on their way, just as much as men. Such was the case with Rupali too. She wanted a 'rich' man who would serve her everything on the platter, despite coming from a middle class family and seeing the struggles herself. It took breaking up a family for her to realize that what she really wanted was someone who would accept her wholly. This is also quite a life lesson, since many do not realize that they can grow with their life partner rather than depending on them for success.
PS: All's well that ends well and in laughter, just like this David Dhawan film. Also, if you don't want your man back because he left you, move on and rule the world like the queen you are. More power to you!
