Kunchacko Boban’s Grrr is touted to be a slice-of-life comedy about relationships
Kunchacko Boban’s jumping genres these days. The actor, who has just completed an action-thriller and is currently filming a family entertainer titled Padmini, will begin working on Jay K’s slice-of-life feel-good movie Grrr, which also has Suraj Venjaramoodu in a pivotal role.
The movie, which was first announced back in August 2020, is set to go on floors in March in Thiruvananthapuram. Grrr marks Jay K’s second full-length directorial in Malayalam. The filmmaker had previously helmed Prithviraj Sukumaran’s horror film Ezra as well as Samyuktha Menon, Joju George’s featurette in the anthology Aanum Pennum. Jay had also directed the Bollywood remake of Ezra titled Dybbuk: The Curse is Real starring Emraan Hashmi and Nikita Dutta.
Grrr, meanwhile, will be shot mainly in Thiruvananthapuram, at the zoo and surrounding areas, as well as Kannur. In an earlier interview, Jay had said that though the zoo is part of the film’s plot, the movie is essentially a slice-of-life comedy about inter-personal relationships.
The movie will have animals as part of the story and the team had initially planned on working with a VFX studio based in London as part of its post-production. August Cinema, which had also backed Kunchacko’s recent release Ottu, will be bankrolling Grrr. The team will be using VFX, animatronics as well as real animals to film scenes of the comedy.
Meanwhile, Kunchacko is currently shooting for Senna Hegde’s Padmini in Palakkad. The movie, which also has Aparna Balamurali and Madonna Sebastian, is an entertainer that is scripted by Kunjiramayanam fame Deepu Pradeep.
Kunchacko’s next release is expected to be the political thriller Chaaver, which also has Antony Varghese, Arjun Ashokan and Manoj KU as part of the cast. The film, helmed by Tinu Pappachan, is currently in its post production phase. Joy Mathew has written the script for Chaaver, which is expected to hit theatres by March or April this year.
