Griselda is a dramatization of the life of the eponymous Griselda Blanco, who was the Queenpin of Miami in the 1970s and 1980s. The limited series will be six episodes, each an hour long.
Narcos creators Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz are ready to serve their latest concoction, a limited series based on the life of Miami cocaine queen Griselda Blanco. Griselda, the new series, will see Sofia Vergara in the titular role of protective mother, charming lover, and shrewd businesswoman with a killer streak for those who disagree with her.
Griselda drops on OTT on January 25, 2024. All six episodes will be available at once, so viewers have the freedom to binge it too, on Netflix. While Sofia Vergara is known in the comedy genre, especially with her long-term stint on Modern Family as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, here she takes on a different, grittier, more ruthless character.
Griselda follows the story of Griselda Blanco’s rise to the top of the thriving drug cartel business of ‘70s and ‘80s Miami. In a sphere dominated by men who ask for the person in charge when they see a woman addressing a meeting, Griselda uses a potent mix of cruelty and charm to make her way and manage her blooming drug business.

The ironic thing is, her first attempt at running the drug business failed in Queens, New York as the US authorities had almost caught her. It caused the Colombian tough nut to flee the country with her family and criminal (as well as first) husband, returning several years later to begin her operations in Miami.
But Griselda is nothing less than caring for her loved ones, including her four children, lovers, and friends. In a discussion with Netflix, creator Eric Newman shared his vision of the Griselda story and its series adaptation, by describing it as a ‘rise-and-fall story’ unlike any people have seen before. It contains all the elements of humor, emotions, tragedy, thrill, fear and horror.

He called Griselda Blanco an anti-hero of the ultimate level as well as a paradoxical character at odds with several aspects of herself. Newman also explained the reason for the admiration a drug queen like her inspires in viewers.
The simple reason being no other woman ever coming close to gaining the amount of power, wealth, and respect Griselda possessed. His follow up to this is both chilling and thrilling, ‘And no trafficker, woman or man, ever elicited the same level of fear.’
