The Treadstone actor is in talks with HBO to play the role of a superhero in the upcoming Green Lantern series.
HBO Max’s upcoming Green Lantern series is eyeing actor Jeremy Irvine to cast him for the role of the gay superhero Alan Scott in the forthcoming series. If the negotiations work out, we could see the Treadstone actor joining the star ensemble alongside Finn Wittrock who is roped in to play the Guy Gardner iteration of the superhero.
Alan Scott was Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, sticking true to the series is a gay man. The character was developed by Martin Nodell, who made his comic book debut in 1940. A train engineer by occupation, Scott attains his powers from a mystical green lantern crafted from a mysterious meteorite. Later on, joining the Justice Society of America, and hopping through adventures, he would often team up with members of the Green Lantern Corps, including Hal Jordan.
The series, based on DC’s comic property, was first announced in July 2019. The series was announced in 2020. Chronicling through decades and galaxies, the story begins on Earth in 1941 with Scott, a secretly gay FBI agent. It then heads to 1984 where we witness a rude alpha male Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joining hands with a multitude of other Lanterns - from old favourites to never-before-seen heroes.
The ten-hour HBO series is co-written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with Grahame-Smith serving as showrunner. It will be jointly produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
