Just around the release of Gora 2, Ritwick talked with OTTplay about the change in this character, how he wants to explore comedy, and why he shares his opinion on social media.
After shooting Kamaleswar Mukhopadhyay’s Ektu Shore Boshun and Pritha Chakrabirty’s Paharganj Halt, Ritwick Chakraborty is back as an eccentric detective in the second season of Gora. However, he has no time to respite. The actor will soon fly down to the UK to shoot Jaydeep Mukherjee’s thriller with Ishaa Saha and Anirban Chakrabarty. Just around the release of Gora 2, Ritwick talked with OTTplay about the change in this character, how he wants to explore comedy, and why he shares his opinion on social media.
This season, Gora has shaved his head. Explaining the reason, Ritwick elaborated that it was the easiest. “The hairdo in the first season was the result of lockdown and being unable to have a haircut. Replicating that seemed unreal now. We were brainstorming what to do, and we came up with the idea of going bald. Sahanadi and her team liked it, and I went for it,” the actor said.
Talking about the brief of his character Gora, Ritwick said that he was asked to behave ‘un-detective-like.’ “He forgets names, doesn’t like female characters, and is very rude and arrogant. However, he is super intelligent. That is how Gora’s character is shaped by the makers. I followed this brief, he said.
Ritwick is often seen in rather serious roles. How does he enjoy doing lighter characters like Gora? “Very much,” he promptly replied. “I usually get roles that are slightly only the serious side. I don’t often get high-octane characters like Gora. However, like every actor, I also love to explore different characters. I desperately look for such roles. Jim Carrey is one of my favourite actors. I love the fact that my lighter characters are also well received,” said the actor.
Ritwick is known to express his political views on social media. “I see social media as my personal media. I express my opinion. Many people tell me why I should not do it. I ignore them. My social media handles are my mouthpieces,” he said.
Ritwick is one of the finest actors of his generation. However, he has maintained a clean and respectable image, away from Tollywood controversies and lobbies. Talking about this, he said, “I stayed away from the camps, and I never faced any challenge due to my stance. I may have missed out on five films, but I did not sit idly. Five more films came on my way. I have never faced any difficulty,” he said.
Gora 2, which was dropped on Hoichoi on June 30, also features Suhotro Mukhopadhyay, Ushasi Ray, Manali Dey, Abhijeet Guha, and others. Like its first season, this nonliterary detective series offers comedy and thrill in equal measures and stands out as an entertaining series.
