Aapka Apna Zakir goes off air! Gopal Datt says 'shuru hone se pehle hi...'

Zakir Khan's comedy show Aapka Apna Zakir went off air within a month of its premiere. Gopal Datt, who was a part of the show, has expressed his disappointment.

Zakir Khan's comedy show Aapka Apna Zakir generated a lot of buzz before its premiere on Sony Entertainment Television. Amid all the hype, Aapka Apna Zakir premiered on the TV channel on August 10, 2024, and streamed digitally on SonyLIV. Unfortunately, Zakir's show went off air within a month of its premiere. Gopal Datt, who was a part of Aapka Apna Zakir as a panelist, has opened up about the show's stint being cut short.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Gopal Datt said he doesn't know what exactly went wrong with Aapka Apna Zakir, leading to its closure. The actor wanted to explore the Zakir Khan show by adding witty dialogues and punches. "I was still figuring out how to make it more interesting, but shuru hone se pehle hi bandh ho gaya toh kuch kar nahin sakte (it went off the air before it even picked up)," he said.

According to Gopal, Aapka Apna Zakir's journey could've been shortlived due to TRP issues. The actor feels the comedy show was still in its early stages and finds it strange that it was judged too fast. He further spoke about his decision to explore the television medium. Gopal believes that TV has its pros and cons. While it does guarantee mass reach, there isn't much to explore.

However, the actor loves to dabble in different mediums including theatre. "When you work on big films, you don’t have too much choice. You are just a character and the control is elsewhere. It’s much better in OTT and indie projects," he added.

Gopal further mentioned that theatre also gives an artist the liberty to take control. But one has to invest money on their own, he added.
