At the Golden Globes 2024, The Crown and The Bear have begun well with Elizabeth Debicki and Ayo Edebiri winning their respective nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress respectfully.
Elizabeth Debicki and Ayo Edebiri both are relatively fresh on the acting market, despite numerous previous credits, with both the actresses just crossing the Golden Globes nomination threshold. However, both have proved their acting mettle by scoring victories this year.
While Elizabeth Debicki has won the Best Supporting Actress on Television, Ayo Edebiri has scored Best Actress in a TV series, Musical or Comedy. Both the actresses faced cut-throat competition this year with multiple iconic performances gracing the nomination screen.
Presenters Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton fame, and Inventing Anna’s Julia Garner, dressed in a dashing white suit and a stunning silver, cutout gown, announced the various contenders for Best Supporting Actress, before declaring the victor. Abby Eliot (The Bear), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), J.Smith-Cameron (Succession), Meryl Streep (Only Murders in the Building), and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), were the other nominees in this category.
For the announcement of Best Female Actor in TV series Musical or Comedy, Bodyguard-fame Kevin Costner and Barbie star America Ferreira presented the award to Ayo Edebiri for her spectacular performance in The Bear as Sydney.
The other nominees in this category were Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in The Building), and Elle Fanning (The Great).
Both the actresses were nervous during their speech, but Debicki was more composed during her thank you speech, dedicating the award to her entire cast, crew, her partner Christian, as well as her parents. She also thanked her publicist Hilda and dedicated the award to her godmother.
Edebiri, on the other hand, being a first-time nominee as well as winner, was taken by shock and rambled a little by expressing her gratitude towards her The Bear family as well as her real family. But she ended the speech on the best note by thanking her assistants and managers, who answered all her mail for her.
To include such a truly thankless and tiresome job that few acknowledge and even fewer mention, in one’s Golden Globe speech shows a lot of character. The Golden Globes 2024 can be streamed on Lionsgate Play and OTTplay premium January 8, 2024, onwards.
