The power-packed trailer was launched at the film's pre-release event in Anantapur
Godfather, the Telugu remake of the Malayalam hit Lucifer headlined by Chiranjeevi, has been in the news for the right reasons lately and the makers have amplified the promotional campaign just at the right time. Nayanthara, Satyadev and Salman Khan play other key roles in the film adapted and directed by Mohan Raja. The much-awaited film is releasing on October 5. The trailer of the film was launched at the pre-release event being held at Anantapur today.
The trailer takes off with an announcement confirming the death of PKR, the current CM and the leader of the Jana Jagruthi party. All eyes are on the next political successor to the veteran. While PKR's daughter is uncertain about taking the plunge, the equations complicate with the entry of Brahma - whom the voiceover refers to as a mysterious fellow. He has just come back from jail and even utters a line - 'I may have distanced myself from politics, but politics hasn't.'
Satyadev as Jaidev is clearly the bad guy in the saga and is pitted against Brahma. While Brahma leaves no stone unturned to safeguard the interests of the party, he also faces opposition from PKR's daughter. Do they have a past that we don't know of? The icing on the cake is the presence of Salman Khan, who's out to support his 'boss' in the hour of crisis. Samuthirakani is cast as a cop while Sunil plays a driver.
Chiranjeevi looks extremely comfortable in the action-cum-political drama with power-packed dialogues. Satyadev and Salman Khan too make an impression in their brief screen-time in the trailer. Nayanthara is a picture of confidence and carries the silent intensity of her part with authority on the screen. The catchy background score, sharp background score and the slick editing leave behind a solid impact.
Two singles from the film - Thaar Maar and Najabhaja - have turned out to be chartbusters in both the Hindi and Telugu versions. S Thaman scores the music for the political drama. Nirav Shah cranks the camera while Suresh Selvarajan is the art director. Lakshmi Bhupal has penned the dialogues. Netflix has bagged the streaming rights. Apart from Godfather, two other films hit screens this Dasara - Nagarjuna's action The Ghost and Ganesh, Varsha Bollamma starrer Swathimuthyam.
