Gippy Grewal's film Shinda Shinda No Papa will release in theatres soon
Diljit Dosanjh has been touching new heights beyond Punjab and even Bollywood. The actor was seen in Amar Singh Chamkila, a movie about a former Punjabi singer, who was iconic for his passion for music. Seeing the love that the Netflix release has received in Bollywood, Gippy Grewal has shared his views. He believes that it is important for such stories and artists to be noticed.
While talking to DNA for his film Shinda Shinda No Papa, Gippy Grewal said, “Yeh zaroori bhi hai. Jab apne behen-bhai ko aisa support mile, ya itna naam ho, toh isse zyaada khushi ki baat ho hi nahi sakti.” The actor added that when big stars meet them, it is a sign of respect and for the same, he feels humbled and blessed.
Amar Singh Chamkila is the story of a former Punjabi singer (born in a Dalit family) who died during a performance. Like many artists from the state even today, Chamkila had received death threats to discontinue his performance. After some back-and-forth, and seeing how far he came from where he started (working in socks manufacturing factory), he decided to pursue his passion and collaborated with a known musician. In no time, Chamkila gave his own live performances and outshined many artists of the time. He was killed after bullets were fired at him from a distance, owing to the rivalry.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Diljit Dosanjh played the role of Amar Singh Chamkila in the Netflix release. Parineeti Chopra was seen in the role of his wife, Amarjot Kaur. The movie released on the OTT platform on April 12 and has been among the most viewed since. Mohit Chauhan and Kumud Mishra had special appearances in the film too. The music of the film, which became one of the highlights, was by AR Rahman.
