Anupam Kher on his Kannada debut

Revered Hindi film actor Anupam Kher's long-due Kannada debut is set to happen in 2023 with M.G. Srinivas' Ghost. The stage is perfectly set for the 68-year-old actor who is now keenly looking to not only expand his repertoire but also collaborate with exciting talent from all across the country. In 2022, Kher had starring roles in films like Karthikeya 2 (Telugu) and Connect (Tamil) and has previously been a part of multiple Malayalam productions as well.

Recently in Bengaluru, Anupam Kher joined the team of Ghost, including co-stars Shiva Rajkumar and Jayaram, writer-director M.G. Srinivas and producer Sandesh Nagaraj, for a press meet where he discussed a few interesting aspects of his debut.

When asked whether he was offered Kannada projects in the past, the veteran actor said, "Yes, about 10-11 years ago, I was approached for a film and Mr. Upendra was the hero. I could not work out the dates but nothing concrete has come from this part of the world. But I am sure everything happens at the right time and perhaps there was no two-part project being made at the time. So, maybe I was looking to do two films at least but jokes apart, I have done films in Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu - in fact, I just finished another Telugu film. I have done a Chinses film, as well. An actor might have been part of 535 films but he is still always looking for more work".

What compelled him to be part of Ghost? "Well, apart from sir (Shiva Rajkumar) being part of this film, I think it's because M.G. Srinivas is very insistent. He was after my life. I listened to the script after that - it's a really interesting film, very stylish. And I hadn't been to Bangalore for a long time and this was the best way to come to the city and spend time with the people here," added The Kashmir Files actor.
