Ved marks the directorial debut of Riteish Deshmukh and is co-produced by Genelia Deshmukh.
For Genelia Deshmukh, whose most recent release, Ved has the cash registers ringing, the new year hasn't begun any better. In recent years, the love story, which is also Riteish Deshmukh's first time directing, has done better at the box office than any other Marathi film. Genelia, who is also serving as the movie's producer, grins with delight as she explains to Mid Day that normally, one has to compete for shows, but Ved is adding additional shows. The fact that folks are bringing these figures home makes one happy. She experienced this most recently in 2008, at Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.
Ved's success shows that regional film is finally getting the attention and respect it has needed for a long time but rarely received. Genelia is an expert because she has juggled Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. The actor has worked in a variety of languages, and she has never given one industry precedence over another. All of that ought to have happened, and it didn't back then, but she's happy it did today.
The actor's career milestone is Ved. She took a break from acting in films after Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (2012), only sometimes making cameo appearances. She spent the last ten years focusing on marriage and motherhood, but she always knew she would come back to a movie set. Genelia yearned to act. But she was certain she would return. But it's far easier said than done to end a break.
Genelia acknowledged that she had a lot of questions in her brain as she started working on Ved. She pondered, "Will people like me?" Even if people do, will they want to see her again? Have they changed? But her sabbatical allowed her to see things from a different perspective. It aided her in understanding the roles she wishes to play. The actor is unable to perform as Aditi from Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na today, but she may perform as Shravani from Ved. Genelia can then relate to the young woman who moved with her from Aditi to Shravani.
