Shakun Batra has been one of the most promising young directors who debuted with Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu in 2012.
Amid the pandemic, with films taking the OTT route and some very prominent projects hitting streaming screens, there were some that were sure-shot candidates for the theatrical experience but had to succumb to the new normal and land on OTT. One such film was the well-mounted, star vehicle Gehraiyaan which released right between the second wave. Starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Ananya Panday, the film, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, was directed by Shakun Batra. While Batra was appreciated for his direction, he has not announced his next project ever since, and there were no updates on what he is doing next. But it turns out, now we know what the filmmaker is up to.
As per the latest update on Pinkvilla Shakun Batra, after working with Dharma Productions for three films, has now decided to step outside his comfort zone and has joined hands with Junglee Pictures to direct and shape a new film, which will be his fourth directorial venture since his 2012 debut with Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The new film, backed by Junglee Pictures, will enter production in 2025. Read on to know everything about the same.
“When Shakun heard about the idea, it was an instant yes from him to come on board to develop and direct the film. Shakun and Junglee Pictures have worked on the script together, as the former has added his own flavour to the same along with the writers Suprotim Sen Gupta and Kunal Aneja. It’s an exciting and new space for Shakun,” said a source close to the development.

The source also confirmed that the script for the film, which is yet untitled, is a genre-breaking comedy that will introduce the audience to a fresh cinematic world. The insider revealed that the makers are in the final leg of revisions on the script before approaching actors. However, there is no information on whom the makers want in the film or where the shooting will take place.
Meanwhile, Shakun Batra is not completely out of the Dharma camp. The filmmaker is also co-producing a feature film with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, which is currently in the scripting stage. “Even this one is an extremely exciting project, which has been developed by Shakun and Ayesha Devitre, and the script is expected to be locked in a fortnight, post which it proceeds to the casting stage,” the source concluded.
