Director Gautham Vasudev Menon shared an exclusive update on the 2025 release plans of his long-delayed but much-anticipated spy action-thriller Dhruva Natchathiram, starring Chiyaan Vikram
If there’s one question that Tamil director Gautham Vasudev Menon has been hounded by during his interviews, it’s about the release status of his ambitious spy action-thriller Dhruva Natchathiram, starring Chiyaan Vikram. Fans of both the filmmaker and the superstar finally had their hopes up last year, when the team announced a release date but only to push it further.
Now, in an exclusive interview with OTTplay, the filmmaker, who is now set for the release of his Malayalam directorial debut Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, offers an update on the Dhruva Natchathiram release plans this year.
Since 2023, the film’s release has been pushed due to the financial issues plaguing the big-budget movie, which was shot in Slovenia, Bulgaria, Georgia and the UAE, along with a few portions in Tamil Nadu.
Now, the director clarifies that he has ironed out most of the hurdles, preventing the film’s release. “I have almost sorted out all the financial issues of the film and the legal tangles. I had to take over the film from my partners, who were producing the film. I took over completely. The idea of me acting in films was to put back money into this movie, to complete it first. We managed to do that, and the film is now censored,” Gautham told us.
On the release plans of the film that also has Ritu Varma and Simran, the director says, “Although it was in the making for six years; it was only supposed to release last year. We had put out a release date but we weren’t able to make it to the screen. But this year, hopefully, within a couple of months, we will definitely bring it to the screen.”
Meanwhile, the filmmaker is looking forward to the release of his next movie Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse which is set to hit theatres on January 23. Gautham said that he completely enjoyed making the film and especially working with Mammootty. “I was on the ball completely and it was a great process for me. Frankly, after a long time, I enjoyed being on the sets of a film,” he said, in an exclusive interview.
