Gangubai Kathiawadi song ‘Dholida’: Alia Bhatt enthrals in energetic dance number composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali

A still from Dholida

A new song ‘Dholida’ from Alia Bhatt’s new film Gangubai Kathiawadi has been released. The actor had previously announced the song with a promo shared on social media.

The energetic dance number, composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, takes inspiration from garba folk tunes. Janhvi Shrimankar and Shail Hada have lent their vocals, while Kumaar has written the lyrics.

'Dholida' recalls the similar beats and sounds of 'Dholi Taro' and 'Malhari' also composed by Bhansali.

The video features Bhatt, clad in a sparkling white outfit and red roses in her hair, as she bursts into dance in the middle of a market. Joining her in the garba routine are a large number of ladies, the many residents of Kamathipura.

The biographical crime drama is directed by Bhansali, who has previously helmed larger than life films like Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Padmavaat and Bajirao Mastani.

The film, adapted from a chapter of journalist-writer Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai also stars Seema Pahwa, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz and Indira Tiwari. Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn and Huma Qureshi will appear in cameo roles.

Set in the 1960s, Bhatt is seen in the titular role as Kamathipura’s beloved and most powerful madam. It’s a character unlike any other she has played before.

Bhansali is producing with Jayantilal Gada's Pen India Limited.

Gangubai Kathiawadi will have its world premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival on February 10. It is the only Indian feature to be presented at the event and one of the four films to make it to the Berlinale Special Gala. Following this, the film will head to cinemas on February 25.
