Alia Bhatt's film Gangubai Kathiawadi is speaking for itself. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film's success is soaring high. After an opening of Rs 10.50 crore (net) on Friday, the film has proven itself by smashing the Monday test. The film has made Rs 8.19 crore on Monday, despite the 50 per cent occupancy in Mumbai.
The film has received great word-of-mouth publicity as both multiplexes and single screens are said to be getting house full. The filmmaker Bhansali has managed to pull crowds back to cinemas. The film has collected Rs 47.31 crore in total on Day 4.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical crime film, which is based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Apart from Alia Bhatt, the film also features Ajay Devgn, Parth Samthaan, Shantanu Maheshwari and Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles.
The film, which released on February 25, has been receiving a tremendous response, especially for the performance by Alia Bhatt as Gangubai. Earlier, Bhansali had said in an interview that Bhatt had left without saying a word after hearing the narration. She later got back to him and agreed to surrender herself to his vision and do the best that she could. And her acting prowess left the filmmaker dumbfounded and he was impressed by the way she picked up on his directions and also did voice modulation. He had also said he was fascinated at how quickly Bhatt ‘became’ Gangubai.
Go, catch a show if you haven't already. The film is currently running in theatres successfully.
