Rajkumar Santoshi, the director of Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh, says that he is not afraid of receiving death threats
National Award-winning filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, who is all geared up for the release his film Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh, sought police protection after receiving death threats from unknown people. On Tuesday evening, the filmmaker was present along with the cast and crew of the film, including music director AR Rahman, for the launch of a song from the movie.
During an interactive session with the media, Santoshi was asked about the death threats and if he has received police protection. He said, "I knew that the kind of film I am making and the personality who I am making the film on - Gandhi and Godse - I have to be bold. So, I am fearless. I am not afraid of such threats of someone asking me to stop promoting or releasing the film. But since we have made a film and even though I am not worried for my life, the threat is serious. It is also about people around me and my family, who is also associated with the film."
"So, everyone suggested that I take the matter seriously and seek protection. I went to the Mumbai police and the commissioner arranged for our security and protection. We have police protection now and are thankful to the authority for the same," he further added.
The story of Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh is about the ideological differences between Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi in a fictional situation, and what made Godse shoot Gandhi and surrender to the police.
The film - which stars Deepak Antani, Chinmay Mandlekar, Pawan Chopra, Anuj Saini, Sharad Singh and Arif Zakaria - releases in theatres on January 26.
