Ganapa maker Prabhu Srinivas’ dark comedy, Body God, sets a release date

Guruprasad plays a dead man in the film

A few years ago, director Prabhu Srinivas (Ganapa fame) had written a script for a Tamil film, which he wanted to do with Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. But when the actor got busy with multiple projects, he asked Prabhu not to sit on such an interesting story and to go ahead and make it with someone else. The filmmaker then decided to bring it to Kannada cinema. Called Body God, the film stars Guruprasad, Manoj and Deepika Aaradhya in the lead and it is now set to release in theatres on April 1, along with Upendra’s Home Minister.

The quirky title, according to Prabhu, is in direct reference to the subject of the film, which centres on the ideology ‘dehane devaru’. The filmmaker had always maintained that Body God is a dark comedy and if the latest images of Guruprasad fitted into a refrigerator are anything to go, the humour does appear to be on the darker side. In an earlier interaction with the media, Prabhu had explained that the film is about a dead person’s soul, with Guruprasad playing said person.

During an earlier press conference, Guruprasad had spoken about how the film was shot in about a month and a half, of which he spent about 8 days crammed into a refrigerator. “As a dead body, I had to hold my breath for most of my scenes. The story revolves around why I am dead and being stored in a refrigerator by Manoj’s character. I think Body God will join the growing list of experimental cinema in Kannada,” he had said.

Written and produced by Prabhu under the banner Alpha and Omega Productions, the film also sees him fit in as antagonist. Music for Body God has been composed by Karan B Krupa and the film’s soundtrack features a promotional number sung by the late Puneeth Rajkumar.

Apart from Body God, Prabhu is also making a film with Dhananjaya, called Daali, which has been delayed by the pandemic.
