With one spinoff already being worked on, HBO has begun preparations for 10,000 ships,
Winter is coming, and so are Game of Thrones spinoffs. Thronies have been dying to hear about the next spinoff show that HBO is planning after House of the Dragon which is already in the works, and we have some good news for them - Amanda Segel has been brought on board to write 10,000 Ships. This spinoff is one of the three projects that were earlier revealed by HBO.
Segel, who’s also co-executive producer of Hulu’s Helstrom and Person of Interest is expected to pen down this drama which is set 1,000 years before the original series. The plot will revolve around the journey of Princess Nymeria Rhoynar, the warrior queen who traveled from Eddod to Dorne after her house’s defeat by the Valyrian Freehold.
Set in the era of the Second Spice War, 10,000 Ships derives its title from George R.R. Martin’s tale of how the warrior led her people all the way across the ocean to Westeros and burnt her fleet of 10,000 ships on landing as a way to solidify Dorne being their new home with no looking back. In Game of Thrones Arya Stark names her direwolf after Nymeria.
Though concrete details about the spinoff are yet to be shared by HBO, 10,000 Ships is sure to retell the tale of the Valyrians at the height of their power.
Earlier this year, HBO was reported to have three more Game of Thrones spinoffs planned in order to expand the universe of Westeros, Essos and Sothoryos. Alongside 10,000 ships the other two projects are reported to be 9 Voyages or Sea Snake and Flea Bottom.
Some more good news for Game of Thrones fans may come in the form of a possible animated series and adaptations of Martin’s Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas by HBO.
