Prequel of fantasy series Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones (GOT) achieved monumental success among viewers. A fantasy series, it broke every TV record, imprinting itself in the history of pop-culture forever. Therefore, it is natural that anything related to GOT gets quite the hype and the spin-offs and prequels are no exception.

Some of the offshoots that have hit the media reports since the last few months are:

  • House of the Dragon – It would chronicle the Targaryen Civil War that takes place about 300 years before the events of GOT. Placing the Targaryen household at the forefront, the series will highlight the power dynamics that led to the biggest civil war in the history of Westeros.
  • 9 Voyages aka Sea Snake – It would narrate the great voyages of Corlys Velaryon aboard the Sea Snake ship, who traveled all around the world from Pentos to Myr, and even the fabled lands of Yi Ti and Leng.
  • 10,000 Ships – Set after the Second Spice War, the plot is said to revolve around Princess Nymeria and her journey along with the remaining members of Rhoynars family, from Essos to Dorne after being defeated by Valyrian Freehold.
  • Flea Bottom – The show would be based in Flea Bottom, the run-down slum district of King’s Landing, filled with tanneries, brothels, and ale houses.
  • An adaptation of George Martin’s novella Tales of Dunk and Egg, as well as a possible animated series.

These projects have already started amassing fans of their own and have been generating quite a buzz among the audience. However, not all of them have been greenlit so far.

In a recent press conference at the Warner Media Headquarters in NYC, HBO chief Casey Bloys clarified the status of these upcoming shows. Stressing how anything related to GOT becomes news, and thus any new idea being pitched is assumed to be in production, but that’s not the case. Of all the projects making headlines, only the House of Dragons has been greenlit and is in production. The rest of them are still at an early stage and are in development.

Co-created by Martin and Condal, House of the Dragon stars Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Fabien Frankel, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno. Without divulging any information, Bloys revealed that the much-awaited show is scheduled to be released in 2022.
