Maisie Williams revealed her fond memories of the show.
Many Game of Thrones fans will be surprised to learn that Maisie Williams doesn't miss playing Arya Stark in the series. In an interview with GQ UK, Williams was asked if she missed the series, and after a little pause, she answered, "Can I say none of it?"
The actor doesn't think missing it is healthy because she enjoyed it. Williams has such good memories of it, and she is very proud of it. But why would the actor want to be sad about the best thing that has ever occurred to her? She doesn't want to link that to any negative emotions.
Williams also admitted that she despised her role as Arya in the Game of Thrones. She supposes she resented Arya when she first started becoming a woman because she couldn't articulate who she was becoming. The actor went on to say that then there was her body, which she despised because it wasn't in sync with the part of her that the world admired.
Robert Sterne, the casting director, recalls Maisie's first audition vividly. He had told the magazine that they had seen hundreds of young people for the part, and then in walked Maisie, being honest, fearless, unfazed, direct, hilarious, and asking interesting questions. Sterne has no idea how she accomplished it. He claims that her portrayal of Arya was completely developed from the start.
The character stood out for a number of reasons, not least because the idea of a young woman being given the opportunity to wield a sword without competing for the affection of a male character was so unusual on television at the time. Maisie, who enjoyed the rough-and-tumble environment and performed several of her own stunts, leaned in. Sterne claims that the show's writers enjoyed writing more and more for her character. She had a lot on her plate and was up to the task.
