The RRR actor shared why attending the Oscars ceremony was a lot like ‘work’ more than a celebration
Ram Charan, who’s currently enjoying his ‘daddy’ time with his daughter Klin Kaara Konidela, is gearing up for the release of Shankar’s Game Changer soon. Post that, he’ll begin work on Buchi Babu Sana’s sports drama, produced by Mythri Movie Makers, which’ll have music by AR Rahman. In a recent promotional interview for a brand, he relived the night RRR won the Oscars.
When popular Youtuber Tanmay Bhat asked him to remember the night his film had won the Oscars, he told, “My director SS Rajamouli considered it a part of shoot and asked us to get ready by 7 am. This was not Bombay/South Indian media; we are underdogs, going for the first time.” He felt underdogs do enjoy an advantage with the US media.
“Underdogs are loved in Hollywood. However, the day you come late, they’ll very much say that he presumes he’s Richard Gere or a George Clooney. I was instructed to sleep tight and rise early because I couldn’t take anything for granted. I had a quiet dinner and went to sleep early,” Ram Charan shared. He was accompanied by his wife Upasana Konidela, RRR team at the event.
When Tanmay asked if it was a work trip, Ram Charan didn’t deny it. “Glad, you bought it,” the star said and had a hearty laugh. For the uninitiated, RRR won the first ever Academy Award in Indian cinema, where Naatu Naatu bagged a win in the Best Original Song category. The actor, in the film set in 1920s, played the role of the popular freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju in his younger years.
Also starring Jr NTR, Samuthirakani, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and others, RRR was produced by DVV Danayya under DVV Entertainment. The film can watched in multiple languages on ZEE5, Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix.
