The buzz is that the team is buoyed by the positive response to its release here and mulling a north India outing too
Last Friday, director Yogaraj Bhat’s much-anticipated Gaalipata 2 released in theatres. Although not a sequel to his 2008 film Gaalipata, this new movie came with a lot of expectations, especially because it reunited Yogaraj with Ganesh, with Diganth and Anant Nag also a part of it. There was a change up in the cast, with Pawan Kumar replacing Rajesh Krishnan and a bunch of new leading ladies too.
Gaalipata 2 opened in theatres on August 12 to mixed reviews. While a section of the audience loved the Yogaraj and Ganesh combination, with Diganth’s aghori outing also being widely appreciated, there were some who were disappointed that Gaalipata 2 did not live up to the standards set by the original film. The narrative, they felt, lacked logic. However, despite the criticism, Gaalipata 2 has been doing above average business at the box office and is believed to have broken even.
Producer Ramesh Reddy, whose previous ventures had him losing money all the time, had pinned a lot of hope on Gaalipata 2 and it appears that he won’t be disappointed. In fact, going by the film’s fairly decent showing at the box office, a source from the team says that they are contemplating dubbing it in Hindi and releasing it in the north Indian market. Dubbing into other languages would have anyway been necessary for satellite and digital rights. Fans, however, are not too kicked about the idea, saying that the subject will not work elsewhere.
Gaalipata 2 revolves around three friends who head to a college to learn Kannada, where they meet a professor who takes a shine to them. Years later, when the professor’s mental health is at stake, the trio return to take him on a trip that could potentially solve his problem. Beside Ganesh, Diganth, Pawan and Anant Nag, the film also stars Rangayana Raghu, Sudha Belawadi, Sharmiela Mandre, Srinath, Vaibhavi Shandilya, Raghu Ramanakoppa, Samyuktha Menon and Nishvika Naidu, among others.
