Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma

There can be no glorious moment to overpower; at least for the coming few months, what Virat Kohli has achieved in world cricket and his iconic century at the semi-finals of the 2023 World Cup while playing against New Zealand will be written in golden letters. But what also will be written (not in golden words) is how lethal the internet is at times and how far Netizens have come from the time they tried to blame a woman cheering from the stands for her husband to now calling her a queen. Yes, we are talking about Anushka Sharma.

Virat and Anushka are a rock-solid couple and one that has set goals for generations by standing behind each other strongly. The two, with their gestures for each other, have always won hearts, and those flying kisses from the match yesterday (November 15) are the images that will stay with us for a long time. The internet is lauding and obsessing over them. But let’s recall when Kohli failed to perform well and Sharma had to suffer the heat.

Virat Kohli returned to form in a full-blown way in 2022 . He suffered a rough patch where his performance was underwhelming a lot of times. But the rule of the gentleman’s game was still to take losses with generosity. But the netizens weren’t really bothered about the ‘gentlemen’ mannerisms associated with the game. Anushka Sharma was subjected to hate by being called bad luck. No one bothered what it meant to the couple, who were themselves struggling because of fate and form. 2016 is the year when Kohli decided to talk about it and bashed the naysayers.

But people with free internet and stale opinions didn’t stop. The king is now back in form and playing like a phoenix. He is now beyond Sachin Tendulkar, with a record that won’t be beaten anytime soon. He still kisses the ring he wears around his neck. But does the internet now give Anushka Sharma the credit she deserves for standing strong? X and other social media platforms are full of reactions of love for the couple. But for how long? Will the netizens remember these good days if some bad ones bounce back?

The questions are infinite, but the answer lies with the one who shares their unwanted, hateful opinion. Now, as Virat and Team India gear up for the finale, here’s us wishing them all the luck and some sanity for the Netizens who find peace in demeaning others.
