Much-awaited movies including Thiruchitrambalam (Tamil) have been lined up for release on August 18. Directed by Mithran Jawahar, the Dhanush-starrer brings the actor back to the theatres after a slew of OTT releases, including Jagame Thanthiram, Atrangi Re, and Maaran. The film, also featuring Nithya Menen, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Raashi Khanna traces the trials and tribulations of a food delivery driver, as he navigates his love life. Thiruchitrambalam marks the reunion of Dhanush and music composer Anirudh Ravichander after seven years.

Solomante Theneechakal (Malayalam)

When: August 18

Vincy Aloshious and Darshana S Nair play police constables, while Joju George shows up as the titular Solomon, a circle inspector. Produced by Lal Jose's LJ Films banner, Solomante Theneechakal also stars Shambu Menon, Johny Antony and Manikandan Achari, among others. Supposedly a thriller, the film has a story and screenplay by PG Prajeesh. Vidyasagar composed the music to the lyrics by Vinayak Sasikumar and Vayalar Sarathchandra Varma.

Takatak 2 (Marathi)

When: August 18

Starring Prathamesh Parab, Akshay Kelkar, and Ajinkya Raut, Takatak 2 is a dramedy narrating the story of three friends through their journey of lust, love, and life. The film is directed by Milind Kavde.

Daagdi Chaawl 2 (Marathi)

When: August 18

Daagdi Chaawl 2 is an action drama starring Ankush Chaudhari and Makarand Deshpande, and is directed by Chandrakant Kanse.

Dobaaraa (Hindi)

When: August 19

Dobaaraa, directed by Anurag Kashyap, had a great reception at the London Film Festival & Fantasia Film Festival 2022. The Taapsee Pannu starrer is produced by Shobha Kapoor & Ektaa R Kapoor's Cult Movies, a new wing under Balaji Telefilms and Sunir Kheterpal & Gaurav Bose (Athena). A remake of the Spanish-language Mirage (2018), Dobaaraa combines thriller and sci-fi elements.

Love 360 (Kannada)

When: August 19

Starring Praveen and Love Mocktail-fame Rachana Inder as the lead, Love 360 is billed as a romantic thriller. According to director Shashank, the film tells an unconditional love story of a boy and a girl, and how they stand by each other under all circumstances. He had also mentioned that Love 360 will have a realistic narration sans melodrama. The film has music by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Abhilash Kalathi.

Orphan: First Kill (English)

When: August 19

Orphan: First Kill starring Isabelle Fuhrman, Rossif Sutherland, and Julia Stiles is a prequel to the 2009 psychological horror film Orphan. It follows the story of Leena Klammer who escapes from an Estonian insane asylum and travels to America, having stolen the identity of Esther, the missing daughter of a wealthy family. The film is directed by William Brent Bell.

Fakt Mahilao Maate (Gujarati)

When: August 19

When Chintan Parikh is frustrated by the constant bickering of women around him, he prays to the Gods above him, seeking power to understand women. As requested, he receives supernatural powers to listen to the inner voice of women around him. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Yash Soni, the film is directed by Jay Bodas.

Tees Maar Khan (Telugu)

When: August 19

Starring Aadi Saikumar and Payal Rajput, Tees Maar Khan is directed by Kalyani Gogana. The film is a coming-of-age story tracing the childhood and college days of Aadi Saikumar’s character, who goes on to become a cop.

Mike (Malayalam)

When: August 19

Mike starring Anaswara Rajan and Ranjith Sajeev traces the journey of Sara, who identifies as Mike and is looking to surgically reassign her gender. What happens when she meets Antony, a dispirited young man with an exuberant past? The film is directed by Vishnu Sivaprasad.

Maataraani Mounamidhi (Telugu)

Ram and Eswar are cousins who live in Eswar’s place. However, supernatural events take place in the house. Ram finds the dead body of Eswar and Eswar finds the dead body of Ram. Are they both alive? Who is alive and who is dead? Directed by Suku Purvaj, the film stars Mahesh Datta and Srihari Udayagiri.

Where The Crawdads Sing (English)

When: August 19

Kya raised herself in the marshes of North Carolina and she enters a new world when she is drawn to two young men from town. However, when one of them is found dead, she becomes the main suspect. Directed by Olivia Newman, the film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith, and Harris Dickinson.

Bujji Ila Raa (Telugu)

When: August 19

When 8-year-old girls are suddenly kidnapped and murdered, its investigating officer meets with an accident. With much mystery surrounding the cases, police officer Muhammad Khayyum takes charge. Directed and cinematographed by Garudaveega Anji, the film stars Sunil, Dhanraj and Chandini Tamilarasan.

Ekans: Snakes Awake! Hero Ek Villain Anek (Tamil, Telugu, Hindi)

This animated film traces the journey of Ekans, a 13-year-old boy who is gifted a Naagmani gem by the world’s most powerful snakes. When the world is under threat, he uses his street smartness and superpower to save his people.

Commitment (Telugu)

Centred around romantic relationships, the film stars Tejaswi Madiwada and Anveshi Jain in lead roles. It is directed by Lakshmikanth Chenna.

Simon Daniel (Malayalam)

When Santhosh disappears while looking for a treasure, his friend Simon Daniel, an archaeologist, decides to find him and complete the mission in a mysterious estate. Directed by Sajan Antony, the film stars Vineeth Kumar and Divya Pillai.

Na Venta Paduthunna Chinnadevadamma (Telugu)

Directed by Venkat Vandela, Na Venta Paduthunna Chinnadevadamma is a love story starring Tej Kurapati and Akhila Aakarshana.

Bismillah (Bengali)

Helmed by Indradeep Dasgupta, Bismillah explores the life of a musical family and how foreign intrusion disturbs their traditions. The film stars Kaushik Ganguly, Riddhi Sen, and Shubhasree Ganguly.

Nope (English)

When: August 19

Nope is a sci-fi thriller starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer. Directed by Jordan Peele, the film explores the adventurous journey of caretakers at a California horse ranch, who encounter an uncanny force that affects human and animal behaviour.
