OTTPlay has made a list of the top five original Indian web series with much-awaited sequels that are releasing soon.
With the pandemic leading theatres to remain shut, streaming services and web series are ruling the entertainment world. Some of these series have already garnered a dedicated fan base. And after treating fans to a great first season, these web series are gearing up for their second season this year. Here, OTTPlay has listed the top five original Indian web series with much-awaited sequels.
Family Man 2
The trailer of Manoj Bajpayee-starrer The Family Man 2 was recently released. It features a completely fresh narrative. Srikant Tiwari (Bajpayee), who played an intelligence officer in the first part, will be seen doing a 9-to-5 desk job in the sequel. He is still glued to his past, where he was working for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and he lands in Chennai where an attack is being planned. The sequel will mark the digital debut of Samantha Akkineni and will also feature Priyamani and Sharib Hashmi in pivotal roles.
Aarya 2
Sushmita Sen’s acting career got a new breath of life with the web series Aarya and Sen is now busy working on its sequel. The shoot for Aarya 2 began earlier this year in Rajasthan. In the series, her strong character is a woman willing to go to any length to protect her children. Speaking about her role, the actress said, “Aarya represents strength, determination and above all vulnerability in a world full of crime, a world run by men. For me, personally, it is the story of family, betrayal and a mother who is willing to go to any length to protect her children.”
Made in Heaven 2
Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur return as the Delhi-based wedding planners that everyone loved in the first part of this hit series. They weaved a different marriage saga with each episode and left fans waiting for more. Zoya Akhtar announced that she was working on Made in Heaven 2 in 2019 and that the team had also started shooting for the much-awaited second season. The sequel will see Sobhita and Arjun planning destination weddings in international settings.
Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi
Pratik Gandhi-starrer Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story was one of the biggest hits in the Indian original web series space. The makers of this series are coming up with another promising narrative. Hansal Mehta announced Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi, based on the stamp paper scam in India as the second installment in the series. The series will be an adaptation of the Hindi book Reporter ki Diary. Talking about the sequel, Hansal Mehta had said, “This is a challenging tale to tell. And even more so because it is Season 2 of such a successful show. We will work doubly hard to reciprocate this love and to make this season very exciting, authentic and engaging.”
Delhi Crime season 2
Shefali Shah-starrer Delhi Crime created history when it bagged the prestigious International Emmy Award in the Best Drama Series category. The first season narrated the 2012 Delhi gang rape incident and followed its police investigation. The second season will see Shefali reprising her role as the tough cop Vartika Chaturvedi investigating a different crime.
