From Chellam Sir to Mrs. Hudson: Meet 10 supporting characters that made the shows better

Have you ever wondered what your favourite show would be without its supporting characters? Although generally the plot in a series or film revolves around the main characters, they are nothing without background or supporting characters who complement them.

Can you imagine Srikant Tiwari without Chellam Sir or Michael without Dwight? Well, here is a list of the top 10 such characters who made our most loved shows worth watching.

  1. Chellam Sir – The Family Man 2

In the latest season of The Family Man, Chellam Sir is almost synonymous with Google. He plays the role of a retired member of the National Investigative Agency and aids Srikant and others in their investigation. In a star-studded cast consisting of Manoj Bajpayee, Samantha Akkineni and Priyamani, Chellam Sir has gained the most fan-following.

2. Dwight – The Office

Although Michael did an outstanding job in the show, Dwight, as a side character, never went unnoticed. He was one of the most ambitious employees in the office and aimed at becoming the next Regional Manager. His quirks and humour were always outstanding, making him one of the most memorable characters on the show. We can all agree; he was the best Assistant to the Regional Manager.

3. Coach – New Girl

It is interesting to note that Coach started off as one of the main characters if you recall the first episode of the series. However, when he was cast for another show, Happy Endings, he was replaced by Winston. Despite this, his appearance later in the show makes fans believe he never left. His transformations as a character are also impressive, as he went from a personal trainer with no respect for women to a gym teacher determined to inspire young athletes.

4. Barney – How I Met Your Mother

Although Barney may not seem like the best character on the show, he is well-known for his iconic catchphrases, charm and well-tailored suits. Towards the end of the series, Barney transforms as a character when he proves his loyalty to his friends and develops meaningful relationships with those around him.

5. Bunty – Sacred Games

Bunty plays the role of Gaitonde’s loyal right-hand man and is more like a brother to him. Jatin Sarna gives life to the character with ease and precision. He incorporated the Mumbaikar slang, mannerisms and traits with perfection and won the audiences’ hearts.

6. Amy – Pitch Perfect

Amy, popularly known as fat Amy in the film, is a character loved by many. She is unapologetically herself and is capable of standing on her own two feet. Apart from being a quirky and hilarious character, she is also an inspirational and talented one. She owns her flaws and is an honest character fans can’t help connecting with.

7. Lyanna Mormont – Game of Thrones

Lyanna was one of the most memorable characters in the series. She is a strong character who is known for her bravery and keeping her word. If you’ve watched the show, you definitely remember her impactful speech before Jon and Sansa that gave us all goosebumps. She is a powerful character and never goes unnoticed.

8. Berta – Two and a Half Men

Although not an official part of the family, Berta is loved by fans for her banter with Alan and Charlie. She lets us into her life by sharing anecdotes about her past throughout the series. Although most of her stories are bizarre, she adds surprise and humour to the show.

9. Beena – Mirzapur

With season one ending the way it did, fans wondered how Beena would bounce back. In season two, she did not disappoint and came back stronger than ever. She used her wisdom and charm to come across as a threat. Even with her limited screen time, she has a major impact on the plot of the show.

10. Mrs. Hudson – Sherlock

Mrs. Hudson is sure to win the hearts of all with her loving, fun and feisty nature. She is always trying to cheer up Sherlock and Watson. She knows Watson and Sherlock more than they know themselves or each other and the duo would do anything to keep her safe.
