The tweet from Zaira read, “Just attended a wedding. Ate exactly like this. Purely my choice. Even when everyone around me kept nagging me that I take the niqab off. I didn’t (sic).” She wrote about women being judged for covering themselves in niqab. The actor added, “We don’t do it for you. Deal with it.”

After leaving the film profession a few years ago, on June 30, 2019, Zaira cited the fact that the employment conflicted with her faith and her religion as the reason for her dissatisfaction. The Kashmiri-born woman wrote in detail on her Facebook page that she had come to the realisation that "though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here."

The actor's last movie, 'The Sky is Pink,' with Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, was released in 2019. At the age of 16, she made her acting debut in with Aamir Khan in 'Dangal'.
