Following Marakkar, Mohanlal’s 4 films will get direct OTT release: Antony Perumbavoor

Popular Malayalam producer Antony Perumbavoor has announced that his five Mohanlal upcoming films will get a direct OTT release. This will include the most-discussed Priyadarshan directorial Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham among others as well.

He was addressing the press in between the heated arguments with theatre owners over the release of Marakkar. The upcoming OTT releases from Antony’s production banner Aashirvad Cinemas includes Bro Daddy, 12th Man and Alone.

After many discussions, Antony was held up with a seemingly-failed final talk between the Minister for Cultural Affairs, Saji Cherian, which led him to the decision. The period drama had many roadblocks since the makers geared for its digital release. This included strong resistance from film distributors, as well as from Minister Saji Cherian.

Antony had earlier resigned from the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), in which he served as the President. His withdrawal was due to the fallout with various theatre owners regarding Marakkar’s release. He reportedly revealed that none from FEUOK had discussed with him regarding the release.

When Antony broke out the OTT release news of Marakkar, the theatre owners were irked as they lost a blockbuster film, especially after the long term shut down of cinemas. However, now the producer has officially announced about the digital release of his Mohanlal upcomings, out of which Marakkar is expected to be a Christmas release.

Meanwhile, Marakkar revolves around the life of Kerala’s naval hero Kunjali Marakkar, who fought against Portugal's occupation of the Indian coast. The movie has a stellar cast including Manju Warrier, Suniel Shetty and many British and Chinese actors.
