Shreyas Manju, the son of veteran filmmaker K Manju, who debuted in Kannada cinema with the Guru Deshpande directorial Paddehuli, is gearing up for the release of his next. Titled Vishnu Priya, this is an intense love story directed by VK Prakash, in which Shreyas is paired with ‘wink queen’ Priya Prakash Varrier. This will, technically, be Priya’s Kannada film debut, although her Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love was released with a Kannada dubbed version.
The makers had earlier released the emotionally charged trailer of the film, which gave audiences a glimpse into what’s in store. They have now announced that the first single from the Gopi Sundar musical will drop shortly. Vishnu Priya revolves around the love story of Vishnu (Shreyas) and Priya (Priya), with the story set in the 90s. The narrative follows how Vishnu, a hard-hearted man falls in love with Priya, his fight to save what matters most to him and how that changes his life around.
In an interview with Times of India, Shreyas had said that choosing a love story as a follow up to the action-packed Paddehuli was a conscious decision. The actor stated that his father, K Manju, advised him to pick a love story over a hardcore commercial subject and VK Prakash, who is known for his work in Malayalam movies, predominantly, seemed the apt choice to present the tale onscreen.
While Shreyas has another Kannada project called Raana in the pipeline with Pogaru maker Nanda Kishore, the young actor is also Mollywood bound, with a role in director Omar Lulu’s Baby Antony starrer Power Star. Raana will have music by popular rapper Chandan Shetty, who had earlier collaborated with Nanda on Pogaru. Apart from a title launch in July, the team has not divulged further details about this project.
