Coming-of-age drama is a genre that can be explored in many directions, as no one truly knows where the story will lead. The genre is as wild as the journey to self-realization, and that’s what makes it so beautiful. Some films even depict the elderly going through a coming-of-age journey while also portraying teenagers in transition, showing the loudest signs of evolution. These stories are often worth watching. One such movie, First Love released in 2022, features some of the most nuanced actors, and centers on a boy enduring a tragic phase just as his family is also suffering. First Love is now hitting streaming platforms again, and if you haven’t seen it yet, consider yourself lucky.
First Love directed by A.J. Edwards and starring the stellar Diane Kruger, Jeffrey Donovan, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Ann Matienzo, and others, tells the story of a boy witnessing a financial crisis at home as his parents struggle to make ends meet. At the same time, his world is further shattered when he experiences a painful breakup, sending him on an emotional rollercoaster. The film is now coming to Lionsgate Play. Read on to know more.

In an interview with Collider, Hero Fiennes Tiffin shared his thoughts on his character and his journey in First Love. "Specifically talking about the character, I was really drawn to him because of how different he is from Hardin. I was also drawn to how different the whole film is, tonally, from After. I was reluctant to do another romance because I wanted to start expanding into different genres.
“But I actually feel like I’m doing myself more justice, in terms of painting myself as a more well-rounded actor, by doing the same genre but in a completely different film, tonally, and playing a completely different character. I do think how far on the other end of the spectrum he is from Hardin was definitely one of the big reasons I was drawn to him and wanted to take on this role," he added.
