Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Lee and his production house 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks have signed a multi-year creative deal with Netflix.
Lee has previously collaborated with the platform on films like Da 5 Bloods and the She’s Gotta Have It series. He is also directing Rodney King and producing See You Yesterday which will be out on Netflix soon, Variety reports.
"There is no better way for me and my company 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks to begin the new year than renew our partnership with Ted, Scott And Tendo — da fearless leaders of Netflix. Besides my joints, we together will focus on the new diverse storytellers, youth must be served," Lee said in a statement. Variety writes that the partnership will begin in January next year.
In a tweet, Netflix said that this partnership will see the platform help Lee's mission in bringing more diversity and developing new talent in the entertainment industry.
Besides the aforementioned projects, Lee is also producing Gordon Hemingway & The Realm of Cthulhu for Netflix. Set in East Africa in 1928, the film "follows the roguish Black American gunslinger Gordon Hemingway, who teams up with the elite warrior Princess Zenebé of Ethiopia to rescue their kidnapped regent from an ancient evil."
