Farida Jalal's last outing was in the OTT space as she appeared on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Recently, in an interview, the veteran actress spoke about how a lot of female actors of her era were typecasted and never got the roles that they desired to play. She also said that she is now happy that digital platforms are giving more opportunities to female actors than they used to have during those times.
Speaking about OTT platforms and how it has changed the acting world for women, Farida Jalal told India Today, “Today, when I see OTT, there have been so many actors who have not been slotted into just playing mother’s roles; they get to do so many things now.”
Farida Jalal, who is known for playing various versatile roles throughout her career in films, Television shows, and now OTT platforms was seen playing the role of Taha Shah's grandmother in Heeramandi.

Although the show is receiving a lot of love from the viewers. Sharmin Sehgal, who plays the role of Alamzeb has been brutally trolled for her performance in the show. Speaking about the same, Farida Ji told India Today, that she is not happy about this. She said, "Be kind. What her capacity as an actor is, she has done her best. I don’t feel the character needs to be very boisterous and loud, the role was not like that.”
She further said, “What were you expecting? Yes, what you thought you needed… It’s ok, why should we be mean to the girl? Be kind, maybe that’s her capacity, just that much. I don’t think the real role was boisterous, it wasn’t. She is a shayara, she falls in love with my bacchha (Taha Shah’s character) and that’s it.”
For the unversed, Heeramandi is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's OTT debut. It also features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Shekhar Suman, Taha Shah, Adhyayan Suman, Fardeen Khan and others in crucial roles. The show is available for streaming on Netflix.
