Farhan Akhtar's web series on Dawood Ibrahim's life to restart only after the monsoons

Toofan-actor Farhan Akhtar is pulling all stops to essay the world's most-dreaded gangster Dawood Ibrahim in his first web show. Based on author Hussain Zaidi's book 'Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia', the show, produced by the actor himself and Ritesh Sidwani, is directed by Shujaat Saudagar. The show commenced shoot in early 2020 and was hit by several delays during the first and the second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier in May 2020, the set constructed for the show near Madh island had to be destroyed because it was bound to remain unused during the lockdown. The pandemic worked against the makers even when they revived the set in early 2021. The shoot had to be stalled after the director was infected with COVID-19 and the entire team had to be under self-isolation. Now, the cast and crew are expected to commence work on the project only after the monsoons.

The show, which has an ensemble cast comprising Avinash Tiwary, Kay Kay Menon, Jitin Gulati, Amyra Dastur, and Kritika Kamra, is 40 days away from completion and the makers don't want to take any risk during the rainy season. Despite being permitted by the Maharashtra government to shoot under strict protocols, the team wishes to play safe and not halt the shoot midway for any particular reason.

There are several scenes in the show that may need crowds to gather in large numbers and a part of the show has to be shot in Dubai as well. The makers are considering a schedule with a skeletal crew but nothing is finalised yet.
