Farhaan Akhtar’s 'Toofaan' gets a new release date on Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video announced the new release date for Farhan Akhtar starrer Toofaan on Wednesday. The sports drama was earlier scheduled to release in September 2020 but was postponed. Now, the movie is all set for a direct to OTT release on Amazon Prime Video on July 16. The film marks the second collaboration of Farhaan and director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

The OTT giant announced the release date with a new poster on Twitter and shared it with the caption, “Can you sense the storm? Well, we can Fire #ToofaanOnPrime, Premieres 16th July!”,

The official synopsis of Toofaan reads, “This motivational story revolves around the life of Ajju, an orphan boy born in Mumbai’s Dongri who grows up to be a local goon. His life changes when he meets a bright and compassionate young woman Ananya, whose belief in him motivates him to find his passion as he embarks on his journey to becoming Aziz Ali, a boxing champion.”,

Farhan himself announced the release date of the film and tweeted with the quote, “With humility, love and in dedication to the fighting spirit of the beautiful people of our nation, our film ‘Toofaan’ will be releasing on July 16th. #ToofaanOnPrime”,

“Toofaan brings alive the exhilarating nature of boxing as a sport while narrating a riveting tale that follows the journey of a common man as he navigates through the ups and downs of life to achieve his dreams. It is a story about resilience, passion and perseverance, and the drive to succeed,” reads a statement from the makers.

Toofaans’s leading actress Mrunal Thakur was previously seen in the 2019 biographical drama film Super 30 opposite Hrithik Roshan. The actress has also bagged the leading role opposite Shahid Kapoor in the upcoming Hindi remake of the Telugu sports drama Jersey.

Meanwhile, the Farhaan starrer sports drama film also stars Paresh Rawal, Supriya Pathak Kapur and Hussain Dalal. Toofaan has been slated to premiere on July 16 on Amazon Prime Video. ,
