Fantastic Four: Jake Gyllenhaal is now Marvel’s first choice to play Reed Richards despite having played Mysterio in the past

Fantastic Four Reboot casting has been the talk of the town for close to a year now

The madness that was unfolding around Fantastic Four Reboot right before the actors’ strike brought things to a standstill was insane. A long list of actors was rumored to be in the competition to play the movie's main four characters. Adam Driver was a favourite of Reed Richards and it was said that the studio is hell-bent on hiring him. But it seems like the times have changed, and a previously rumored actor is back in speculations to play the main man, and it is none other than Jake Gyllenhaal.

For the unversed, so far, we have already seen Adam, Matt Smith, Margot Robbie , Vanessa Kirby, Daveed Diggs, John Krasinski, and a few more already being rumored to be in the race for the reboot. However it was later reported that the studio had gone back to zero and was redoing the entire casting just before the strikes began.

Later, we heard that they have a casting in place, and it will be announced after the end of the Hollywood strikes, even director Matt Shakman hinted at that in an interview. We so far know that Vanessa Kirby is the top contender for Sue Storm, while Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn is almost hired to play Johnny. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, known for The Bear and Punisher, is still in the race to be Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. Adam Driver, as reports suggested, is off the conversation now.

As per an insider, Daniel Richtman, now, the studio is eyeing Jake Gyllenhaal to play Reed Richards and is waiting for his nod to join the Fantastic Four Reboot. What is interesting is that Jake has already played a character in the MCU. The actor was pitched against Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home as the villain Mysterio. How that is going to work in the favour of the studio if he is hired as Reed is a big question.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Jake Gyllenhaal’s name has popped up for Fantastic Four Reboot. The rumors in the past faded very fast, though. However, Fantastic Four now has a new release date as it is set to release on May 2, 2025. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more.
