Fahadh Faasil’s make-up in Malik cost him a National Film Award for Best Actor?

In the past two years, if there was one actor whose performances have won been lauded by the audience and critics alike, it’s Fahadh Faasil. So, it was a wonder that the actor’s name was not featured in the award-winners list at the 68thNational Film Awards that was announced last week.

Now, a jury member of the prestigious awards revealed that the actor was indeed in the running and also made it to the final list for his performance in Mahesh Narayanan’s Malik, which released directly on Amazon Prime Video last year. While the awards were for movies that had released in 2020, Malik had completed shoot ahead of the pandemic and was eligible to considered for this year’s edition of National Awards.

A jury member had revealed to Manorama Online that Fahadh’s performance was much-discussed by the members of the committee, which was headed by Vipul Shah. However, what went against the actor was his make-up in the movie with a few members objecting to rule in his favour.

Fahadh had played the character of Sulaiman from the age of 20 to 57 in the film, which spanned from the 1960s to 2018. The actor’s performance in essaying the role of a coastal leader was lauded when the movie had released last year.

The Best Actor was shared by Suriya for his performance in Sudha Kongara’s Soorarai Pottru and Ajay Devgn for his role in Om Raut’s Tanhaji. This is Suriya’s first National Award win while Ajay has been adjudged the Best Actor thrice now. Fahadh won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum in 2017.

Meanwhile, Navya Nair was another Malayalam actress who was in the running for Best Actress Award. Malayalam actress Aparna Balamurali won the award for her role in Soorarai Pootru.
