Fahadh Faasil’s Joji has added another feather to its cap, through its latest award at the Vegas Movie Awards 2021. The Malayalam film, directed by Dileesh Pothan and scripted by Syam Pushkaran, won the Best Narrative Feature Award at this month’s edition.
The film won the Award of Excellence while Michael Andre Carter’s What Goes Around Comes Around won the Award of Prestige and Life Ain’t Like The Movies won the Award of Merit. The Vegas Movie Awards honours indie filmmakers.
This is the third international award for the film, which released earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video. Last month, the movie clinched the Best International Feature Film Award at the Swedish International Film Festival. The movie will be screened for the audience during the week-long film festival, which will feature independent films from across the world, from October 25 to October 31. The film also had an honourable mention at New York Movie Awards.
Joji marked the third collaboration between Fahadh, Dileesh and Syam after their acclaimed movies Maheshinte Prathikaram and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. The film, which is a modern reimagining of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, has Fahadh playing the titular character of Joji who along with his sister-in-law scheme to murder their family’s patriarch. This however sets Joji on a destructive path – one from which he can’t save himself or his family.
Apart from Fahadh, the movie also starred Baburaj, Unnimaya, Basil Joseph, Shammi Thilakan, Joji Mundakayam and Sunny PN. The film marked Fahadh’s third direct-to-OTT release after C U Soon and Irul.
