The film, produced by Srikara Studios and Puri Connects, is headlined by Vijay Deverakonda and Pooja Hegde
Going by her filmography, Zarina Wahab may appear choosy with her Telugu film projects but the actress insists that she never lets go of any Telugu offer that comes her way. The veteran, after a long sabbatical, returns to Telugu cinema with Rana Daggubati, Sai Pallavi-starrer Venu Udugula, that hits theatres this weekend. And that’s not all, she has signed another multilingual biggie.
Zarina has agreed to come on board for Liger filmmaker Puri Jagannadh’s ambitious dream project Jana Gana Mana, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Pooja Hegde in the lead. “I will be playing Vijay Deverakonda’s mother in the film. I heard the film’s brief over a call and agreed to do it immediately. It’s a very well-written role but it’s too early to talk about in depth,” she says.
“Puri Jagannadh is a filmmaker whom I really wanted to work with, for a long time. I am glad this is happening now. I will commence shooting for Jana Gana Mana this weekend at Udaipur,” Zarina adds. For the uninitiated, Jana Gana Mana a.k.a JGM is a story revolving around highs, lows in the life of a soldier, played by Vijay Deverakonda.
JGM, written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, is jointly produced by Puri Connects and Srikara Studios. Maharshi filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally is also one of the film producers apart from Charmee Kaur. JGM’s shoot formally took off a few days ago. The film is set to release in August 2023. Apart from this project, Zarina has also agreed to be a part of a Dharma Productions film.
Some of Zarina Wahab’s recent releases include Mere Fauji Calling, Lalitham Sundaram, Street Dancer 3D and the Narendra Modi biopic. She was to act in Nani’s Dasara as well but had to opt out due to date issues. “I am still ruing the fact that I am not a part of the film. I wish the team the best,” she said, in a chat with OTTplay.com
