The actor shares how the release of two films in two different mediums shows the beauty of coexistence, and the reality of the future of cinema
It isn't often that two films with two different generations release on the same day, that too in two different mediums, starring two people from the same household! What's more, both films have been received well by the target audience. But the release of Monica, O My Darling and Uunchai, which featured Sikandar Kher and Anupam Kher, respectively, was one such rare occasion. And this has become a reason for double celebrations at the Kher household.
Sikandar, the son of actors Kirron Kher and Anupam Kher, expressed his excitement to OTTplay about being in a beautiful space as an artiste, where every story is finding its audience.
Sikandar said, "Indeed, it is a very special phase of my career, but this week is all the more special. I feel fortunate to be the son of my parents, who are great artistes in their own right. Ma (Kirron Kher) found the trailer of Monica, O My Darling and has been waiting to watch the film, since she found it very intriguing. Dad's (Anupam Kher) Uunchai is a special film. We are living in a wonderful time, where two films, of two very different genres, released on two very different mediums, are both doing well. This is what the future looks like — the beautiful coexistence of theatrical and OTT releases. We now celebrate every kind of film."
Anupam, on the other hand, is excited about the way his film, Uunchai, has turned out and thrilled with the love that the audience is giving it. Uunchai is about three friends in their late 60s, who attempt to climb to the base camp of Mount Everest. So, OTTplay asked him if he has anything on his bucket list that he wishes to strike out. The 67-year-old actor said, "What is a bucket list? Ask me about it after 30 years; I am just starting my life now! I am too young (laughs)."
Monica, O My Darling is directed by Vasan Bala, and stars Huma Qureshi, Rajkummar Rao, Radhika Apte and Sikandar Kher, among others. It is streaming on Netflix.
Uunchai is a Sooraj Barjatya directorial, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Sarika. It is currently in theatres.
